Mike Rowe

Mike Rowe, In Defense of Dirt

we found some interesting information:

Mike Rowe, of "Dirty Jobs," was a Scout.

He spoke to the 100-Year Anniversary National Jamboree in West Virginia in 2010...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k9kyaC9q2WY

His "In Defense of Dirt" points are repeated on his website, which actually has several insights.

Three insights are listed here:

-1- http://www.mikeroweworks.com/2010/07/boy-scouts-in-defense-of-dirt/

"THIS JUST IN FROM THE 2010 JAMBOREE: Mike’s proposing these 6 Simple Tenets in Defense of Dirt:

1.) I believe the willingness to get dirty is a fundamental requirement of civilized society.

2.) I believe that God created dirt – not cleaning products.

3.) I believe that a clean mind and a dirty body can walk around in the same skin.

4.) I believe that honest work looks an awful lot like dirt.

5.) I believe that without dirt, we don’t eat.

6.) I believe that it’s absolutely, positively essential to play in the mud."

-2- His Mom's perspectives on being a Den Mom:

-3- This lady's site... she's from the Greater St. Louis Area Council... (Pack 776 - looks like Fenton/High Ridge)

...with a link to Mike's t-shirt page:

And this reminds me of the two end-of-school/Scout year picnics I/we had growing up... over by that one creek with the hill that we slid down until we were so dirty it took a hose in the driveway to clean me off... THAT is just some of childhood Scouting at its finest... well childhood Scouting at it's "fun" finest... it's even better to get so dirty doing work... alas...

May our sons/Scouts, and may every one OF US, with and without the t-shirt (you don't need to own the t-shirt to be inspired), enjoy the joy that really is getting dirty.
